Mr. and Mrs. Tyler
Shoemaker’s Wedding
An Experience of Fifty Years Ago

Mr & Mrs TylerFifty years last Tuesday in the Parish Church, Irchester, there were married John Tyler, of Addington, to Rebecca Clements, of Irchester, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. John Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. Tyler have spent their married life at Irchester. Mr Tyler is 76 and Mrs. Tyler 72 years of age. They have one son and three daughters, the son being in Canada. At the request of their son there was a reunion of the family and relations, he arranging to celebrate the occasion on the other side of "the pond" at the same time.

The old couple relate with some amusement an incident of their wedding, and as showing the contract in the spirit of reverence in our churches now and then it may be quoted that the parish clerk, an old shoemaker, simply left his shoemaker's seat, clad in sleeve waistcoat and leather apron, and took his part in the ceremony in that attire.
