Miss I M Mooring

Another Local Poetess - Bozeat Sister of London Editor Writes for this Journal
Miss Ida M Mooring
Miss I M Mooring
Special to this Journal
A week ago we published an excellent little poem written by a Wollaston young lady of 15.

This week another local young lady finds her way into print in the person of Miss Ida M Mooring, of Bozeat, who is only 21. Very shortly we hope to be able to publish another of Miss Mooring’s works, but the one selected for this week is particularly appropriate. What else can we learn to do that will avail us better in these hard times than “Smile”?

Miss Mooring is the daughter of Mr and Mrs G Mooring, of “Tennyson”, London-road, Bozeat, and her brother, Mr W H Mooring, who was a Northampton journalist, is now editor of “The Bioscope”, a leading film periodical.

Evidently literary talent runs in the family!

The poem selected from those submitted by Miss Mooring is the following:

Smile

If as you jump out of your bed
You light upon a pin, instead
Of nice soft rug, just toss your head,
And smile.

Then coming quickly down the stair,
You step on one that isn’t there,
And later find a bruise somewhere,
Well smile.

At breakfast when it seems all wrong,
The tea is salt, the bacon strong
Just clench your teeth, or sing and song,
Then smile.

Then getting to the station late,
The train has gone, you have to wait;
Don’t sit about and moan your fate,
Just smile.

Then coming home, worn out and cold,
You manfully your woes unfold;
She doesn’t help, shoe only scolds,
And smiles.

You then decide you’d better dine,
Your appetite you feel is fine;
In fact you feel you’ll almost pine,
But smile.

It’s awfully hard when all goes wrong,
To wear a smile and sing a song;
You all may frown, but still ere long,
You’ll smile.

I.M.M.

What other local poets are there hiding their light under a bushel? QUEX
