Awarded Empire Medal
Higham Man in Honours List

CPO R S Marriott Chief Petty Officer Rowland S. Marriott, second son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Marriott, of 1, York-road, Higham Ferrers, has been awarded the B.E.M. He is stationed in Ceylon and notice of the award reached him from the Admiralty, London, at the end of March, the letter stating: "I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to inform you that they have learned with great pleasure that, on the advice of the First Lord, the King has been graciously pleased to award you, in the New Year Honours, the British Empire Medal (Military) for zeal and wholehearted devotion to duty."

C.P.O. Marriott was in Singapore and escaped by the last destroyer to leave before occupation by the Japs. He has a brother, W.O. D. A. Marriott, serving with the 14th Army in Burma, and his youngest brother, L/Cpl. C. F. Marriott, was killed in the battle for Caen last July. Another brother is Mr. G. W. Marriott of Rushden, who is a member of the Special Constabulary.
