Fountain pen marks retirement

LEADING porter S. Knight, of 7 Milton Street, Higham Ferrers (right) is holding the fountain pen given him by his colleagues at Rushden Railway Station to mark the termination of over forty years' service with the railways.
The presentation was made by Mr. G. W. Spriggs, District Traffic Agent for British Railways.
Mr. Knight went from Felixstowe to take up work as a junior porter at Four Oaks (Warwickshire) Station. His starting pay was 23s. a week, out of which he paid £1 for lodgings.
He went to live at Higham Ferrers about 34 years ago. |
