AN MBE was awarded to Gill Horner, aged 62, of Church Street, Hargrave, for services to the community. She was sub-postmistress in the village for 26 years before retiring last year.

She said: "I have always tried to be a good neighbour. Through being in the post office I made lots of wonderful friends and I suppose you become aware of lots of people's problems and try to help if you can.

"I am just an ordinary person but I accept my award with great delight."
