Mr. William Hillson
47 Years As Parish Clerk


After 47 years' service as Parish Clerk and Verger of Stanwick, Mr. William Hillson has retired, and at a meeting in the Church Room a clock, a cheque for £16 and a testimonial were presented to him as a gift from the villagers.

Making the presentation, the Rector (the Rev. F. Taylor) spoke of Mr. Hillson's good work, and his remarks were endorsed by the Rev. J. T. Ford (former Rector), Messrs. F. Patrick and W. Lovell (churchwardens), and Mr A. Clark (United Baptist Chapel).

The testimonial, inscribed by Mrs. Foxon, contained a list of subscribers and a sketch of St. Lawrence's Church.

Refreshments were served by members of the Church Council.

Mr. Hillson, who is 84, has lived in Stanwick all his life except for a brief period in Scotland. He is succeeded as clerk and verger by Mr Edward Knight.
