The Rushden Echo, 3rd February 1928, transcribed by Kay Collins
Evans—Baxter

At St. John the Baptist Church, Chelveston, on Saturday the wedding took place, performed by the Rev. W. H. McCleery (Rector of Chelveston and Newton Bromshold) of Miss Edith Baxter, eldest daughter of Mr. J. W. Baxter, of Water-lane, Chelveston, and the late Mrs. Baxter, to Mr. Edward Thomas Evans, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Evans, of 9, Midland-road, Raunds. The bride, given away by her father, was suitably dressed in pale blue silver crepe and over-lace of silver, a black hat trimmed to match, and silver shoes. She carried a bouquet of white lilies, the gift of the bride-groom. Five bridesmaids attended. The two chief bridesmaids were Miss Vera Baxter (sister of the bride) and Miss Nora Evans (sister of the bridegroom), who wore flowered marocain, pale blue hats, and fawn shoes, and carried bouquets of white tulips. Joyce and Kitty Baxter (sisters of the bride) were attired in pale blue satin dresses, black hats, and black patent shoes. Their bouquets were composed of narcissi. Little Marjorie Evans wore pale pink silk and a mob-cap. She carried a basket of pink roses. The flowers were all the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. Gerald Cuthbert (friend of the bridegroom) was the best man. As the newly married couple left the church little Brenda Wilding (niece of the bridegroom) presented the bride with a lucky wooden spoon. A reception was held in the schools, about 60 guests attending. A handsome two-tier cake, the gift of the bridegroom's mother, adorned the chief table. During the evening dancing was indulged in to music on the piano by Mr. S. Hanwell.
