Rushden Echo, 11th July 1947
Mr. William Craven, of Church-st., Stanwick, is awaiting the arrival of an official letter to tell him that pension, for a wound he received in the 1914-18 war, has been granted. Already he has heard the good news unofficially.
A veteran of the Boer War and the Great War, Mr. Craven returned to his native Stanwick, the home of his wife and five sons, in 1919. He had been wounded and unknown to him at the time, one piece of shrapnel still remained in his body.
As a result this grey-haired ex-soldier will begin a 9s. 8d. weekly pension.
