Rushden Echo and Argus, 25th May 1947, transcribed by Kay Collins
Claridge - Sudborough

Marriage of Great Local Interest
Large Congregation at Higham Parish Church

A WEDDING of considerable interest to Rushden and Higham Ferrers took place at Higham Parish Church yesterday (Thursday), when Miss Madge Sylvia Olga Sudborough, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Sudborough, of Fairlawn, Higham-rd., Rushden, was married to Mr. Henry John Claridge, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Claridge, of Offa-rd., Bedford.

The bridegroom was formerly on the staff of the Midland Bank at Rushden, and is now at the Luton branch. Mr. Sudborough, who is a director of Messrs. A. Sudborough and Son, the Higham boot manufacturers, gave his daughter away. She was attired in white satin, hand-embroidered with diamante, and had a silk net veil embroidered with silver. She wore a coronet of orange blossom and pearls, and her shoes were of white satin. She carried a sheaf of lilies.

There were three bridesmaids, Miss Joan Sudborough and Miss Joyce Sudborough (sisters of the bride), and Miss Joyce Webb. They wore dresses of cyclamen organdie and silver lamé, with white ermine capes and muffs, which were gifts from the bridegroom. They had white silk lace mittens.

Mr. F. Potter, of Shipston-on-Stour, was best man.

The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. Philip Kirk). Mr. J. Lindsay Clipson, A.R.C.O., was at the organ, and as the bride entered the church he played the Bridal Chorus from Wagner's "Lohengrin." During the signing of the register, he played "Salut d'Amour" (Elgar), and the happy couple left the church to the strains of Mendelssohn's Wedding March.

Messrs. T. A. C. Sudborough (brother of the bride), H. W. Colton and P. O. Levison acted as ushers.

A reception was held at the Queen Victoria Hotel, Rushden, before Mr and Mrs. Claridge left for their honeymoon tour of Devon and Dorset. The bride travelled in a beige trimmed with fur, and a little gown to match.

Their future address will be "Fair view," Wardown Crescent, Luton.

Messrs. Wadsworth Bros., Rushden, supplied the motors.
