We are pleased to learn of the appointment of Mr. Horace Catlin, of the Newton-road Council Schools, Rushden, to the headmastership of Kirton Lindsey Boys’ School.

Mr. Catlin is a native of Wollaston, but has spent many years in Rushden, and taken a prominent part in its educational and social affairs. He is a popular master at Newton-road Schools, and is in charge of the boys’ football team, which has won a place at the head of its section in the Wellingborough and District Schools’ League.

But musically Mr. Catlin is best known. He has a fine voice and a deep knowledge of music. He is the conductor of the Adult School Choir, which he has raised to a high pitch of excellence. The Students’ Orchestral Band owes much to its capable conductor and pianist. He is the principal of the Orpheus Quartette party, which has won important prizes. Mr. Catlin was for four years organist of the Park-road Wesleyan Church, retiring two years ago. He is of much service to the adult school in the capacity of pianist and vice-president.

He was honoured with the presidency of the Wellingborough and District Branch of the National Union of Teachers in 1911. The many public services of Mr. Catlin will be greatly missed in the future.
