Mr. Webb had been in failing health for several years, but had been much worse during the past year, and passed away on Christmas Eve at the age of 58. He was born at Dunstable, Bedfordshire, but moved to Higham about 20 years ago, and has since carried on a successful business with the aid of his sons, in Higham and Rushden. He was a member of the Zion Baptist Church, Rushden, and attended the services there when his health permitted. He was much esteemed for his high personal character, and his loss is deeply regretted.

The first part of the funeral service was held at the Parish church, the officiating clergyman being the Vicar (Rev. G. M. Davidson), who also read the committal service at the cemetery.

The chief mourners were the Widow, Messrs. Fred, Frank, Charlie, George, Will, Harry, and Ralph (sons), Misses Elizabeth and Nellie Webb (daughters), Mr. George Webb (brother, Luton), Mrs. Tavener (sister, Dinstable), Mrs. Whinnitt (sister, Tebworth), Mrs. Langsmidt (sister, Leicester), Mrs. George Webb (sister-in-law), Mrs. Fred Webb and Mrs. Frank Webb (daughters-in-law), Mr. Abraham Wagstaffe, Mr. Sam Wagstaffe, and Mrs. Dunmore (brothers-in-law and sister-in-law), and Mr. R. Bayes, Messrs. F. Brazier, A. Lovell, and many other sympathising friends were also present.

The coffin was of polished oak, with brass fittings, and the breastplate bore the following inscription:-

William Webb
Died Dec. 24th 1907
Aged 58 years.

A number of beautiful floral tributes were placed on the coffin, bearing the following inscriptions:-

In fondest memory of a dear brother and uncle, from George Webb and family.

In ever loving memory of our dear brother, from his three sisters, Lizzie, Sarah and Annie, deeply lamented (Luton).

In loving memory of an old friend, from Mr. and Mrs. Fred Parker.

With deepest sympathy from Mr. and Mrs. A. Lovell.

In kind remembrance from C. E. Dunn.
