Killed in Action - Fate of a Newly-Married Raunds Man

Mrs Webb of 18 High-street, Pytchley, has received an official intimation to the effect that her husband, Private John Arthur Webb, was killed in action on January 28th. Private Webb was in the first batch of Britishers to go into the fighting. He had formerly been with his regiment for five years and six months in India, from which country he returned home and entered the employ of Mr Sykes, farmer, about sixteen months before the present war broke out. He was 27 years of age. Much sympathy is extended with his widow; it is only about 11 months since they were married. There are no children.

Pte Webb was the son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Webb of 10 Francis-street, Raunds, where he was well known. Information of his death was received from Pte A Burton, who, writing home to his sister at Stanwick, stated that Pte Webb was shot down close to the spot where he himself was.
