Marine Killed
Young Sportsman from Higham Ferrers
The sad news that their only son, John Raymond Thorpe, aged 22, of the Royal Marines, has been killed has reached Mr and Mrs J T Thorpe, of 21 College-street, Higham Ferrers.
Marine Thorpe, who joined the Royal Marines in May 1942, was a native of Higham and was educated at Higham Council School and at the Rushden Intermediate School. Prior to joining up he was employed in the rough stuff department of Messrs. A. E. Wright Ltd. He was a keen cricketer, having played for the Higham Ferrers C.C., and has won two cups.
Details are lacking, but as Marine Thorpe was stationed in England it is believed that he may have died through accident.
