Raunds Soldier Killed - Pte. P. E. Stubbs – A Victim to a Shell

Pte. Philip Ernest Stubbs, K.R.R., only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Stubbs, Foresters Arms, Raunds, has fallen in action. His parents have received news of his death in a letter from his chum in the same platoon. The chum stated that on Friday, November 3rd, their son, with five others, was killed by a large shell bursting in the middle of them. A small piece entered Pte. Stubb’s brain, death being instantaneous.

Pte. Stubbs was a pupil at the Kimbolton Grammar School for four years, and left last Christmas. He enlisted in the King’s Royal Rifles on Feb. 9th, and reached his 18th birthday on 3rd July. He was a strong, well-built fellow for his age, and was a great favourite with the other scholars when at school.
