Formerly a cycle engineer and hot water engineer, Mr. John Edwin Smith of College Street, Higham Ferrers, died on Tuesday at the age of 73 years. He had been unwell for a considerable time.
For many years Mr. Smith was engineer for the Higham Ferrers Fire Brigade, eventually earning a long service medal.
He was a member of the Earl Fitzwilliam Lodge of Oddfellows and of the Higham Ferrers Historical Society.
There is a daughter bereaved, Mrs. R. H. Emmett, Mr. Smith’s wife having predeceased him several years ago.
