Mrs Mary Anne Simpson

Old Resident’s Death—Higham Ferrers loses an old and much-respected resident in the death of Mrs Mary Anne Simpson, aged 80, wife of Mr Charles Simspon, an old Army pensioner, of 3, School Board-place, Higham Ferrers, which occurred on Wednesday week. Deceased was born at Higham Ferrers, and had lived in the town most of her life. Mr Simpson had served in campaigns in 1868, 1873-4, and in 1880, the latter to prevent the Russians taking Constantinople. During the war 1914-18 he worked at the Higham Ferrers M. R. Station as temporary relief servant. Mrs Simpson had been married before she met Mr Simpson, her name then being Abrams. She was formerly a Miss Britchford. There are left three sons (one in Canada), one daughter, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. The funeral took place on Saturday, the Rev. H K Fry officiating. The first part of the service was conducted at St Mary’s Church, and the interment took place at the cemetery.
