Rushden Echo, 9th September 1910, transcribed by Peter Brown
Mr William Alfred Shelton

Higham Man Dies in Canada – We regret to record the death of Mr William Alfred Shelton (son of the late Mr Philip Shelton, of Higham Ferrers), formerly of High Street, Higham, who passed away at the Victoria Hospital, London, Ontario, Canada, on August 29th. Deceased was 24 years of age. The complaint was consumption. Mr Shelton was living with Rushden people before he went into the hospital. Deceased left England three years ago last April, and worked on the land for some time, after which he was employed in a boot and shoe factory. He was in hospital for five months but recovered sufficiently to resume his work; he was then employed on a mail train, but was soon forced to go back to the hospital. Mrs Seamark (Mr Shelton’s sister), of High Street, Higham, received a letter from Canada on Aug 4 saying that her brother was very ill. On Tuesday last she received a letter from Mr and Mrs Morris, who formerly lived at Irthlingborough, announcing Mr Shelton’s death. The funeral took place on Aug 31.
