| A Fatal Fall - In our last week’s issue we gave an account of an accident which occurred at Higham on June 28th, when a woman named Ann Roddis was severely injured by falling down stairs. Mrs Roddis died on Sunday, and an inquest was held by Mr. J. T. Parker on Monday. Nelson Roddis was first called, and stated that deceased was 74 years old and in poor health. On the 28th June she was coming downstairs, and witness hearing a fall, went to the foot of the stairs and there found deceased severely hurt. She told him she slipped. – Hannah Charles deposed to hearing Mrs Roddis scream, and on going into the house witness found her lying at the foot of the stairs. She was got up and the doctor sent for. – Dr. John Crew said he was called to see deceased and found she had a broken thigh, and her back was severely bruised. Witness had attended her before the accident and she had been in feeble health and suffered from giddiness. Death was due to the injuries received. A verdict of “Accidental death” was returned. |
