Funeral of Mr. C. Roberts of Melchbourne

The funeral of Mr. Charles Roberts of the St. John’s Arms, Melchbourne, took place at Yelden on Saturday.

Mr. Roberts, who was 75, died on Wednesday of last week. He was born at Riseley and for many years was a game keeper on the St. John’s Estate, living at the St. John’s Arms ever since it was built.

He leaves a widow three sons and five daughters and 11 grandchildren.

The Rev. R. Paddick officiated at the service in the Parish Church and the hymn “Abide with me” was sung, Mrs. Paddick accompanying on the organ.

The mourners included Mrs. Roberts (widow), Mr. E. Roberts, Mrs. J. Cole, Mr. F. Roberts, Miss M. Roberts, Mr. C. Roberts (sons and daughters), Mr and Mrs. H. Holden (son-in-law and daughter) Mrs. F. Roberts (daughter-in-law) Mr. J. Cole (son-in-law) Mr. C. Roberts, Miss K. Roberts, Mr. V. Roberts, Mr. G. Dole (grandsons and granddaughter) and Mr. S. Porter (brother-in-law).

Two other daughters were unable to be present.
