First Raunds Victim - Private E Richards Killed
The first soldier from Raunds to be reported killed is Pte Ernest Richards, of the Steelbacks. Pte Ernest Stringer, of the E Co., and Northamptonshires, writing home to his mother, asks her to break the news to Mrs Richards, of Hill-street, Raunds, that her son, Private Ernest Richards, of the same company, died from wounds received on the 9th May. Private Richards had been previously wounded, and had been home for a time, and then returned to the front.

Returned to Die – Raunds private Killed in the Trenches
On Friday morning Mrs Stringer, of Marshalls-road, received a letter from her son, Private E Stringer, asking her to break the news to Mr and Mrs John Richards, of Hill-street, that their son, Private Ernest Richards died on the 9th May from wounds received in the recent fighting. Private Stringer was next to him in the trenches when he was hit, and was also with him when he passed away. Both the men had previously been wounded, and were both at Raunds together when invalided home.
