Raunds Man Killed In Action Private William Richards
"A Good and Cheerful Soldier"

Mr. and Mrs. William Richards, Marshall's-road, Raunds, have received news that their son, Pte. William Richards, aged 21, of the Norfolks, has been killed in France, Second-Lieut, Moulton writes: "It is with deep sorrow I have to inform you that your son was killed in action on August 3rd. He was a good and cheerful soldier, was well liked in the platoon, and will be missed by everyone. It may comfort you to know that he was killed instantly and suffered no pain. We all join with you in your deep sorrow, and offer our tenderest sympathy. He was buried in a soldier's grave north west of Oppy Wood."

Pte. Richards joined up in June and went out to France on November 23rd. Previously he was employed by the St Crispin Productive Society.
