Mrs. Ellen Powell, of 30, College-street. Higham Ferrers, passed away on Thursday, June 1st. Six weeks previously she had suffered a fall, and seemed to be progressing favourably, but a relapse occurred and the end came suddenly.
Mrs. Powell was a keen member of the Higham Ferrers W.V.S. Though not a native of the borough, her home had been there for many years, and her husband. Mr. Walter E. Powell, died five years ago. Four sons and four daughters are left.
The funeral took place on Monday, the service being conducted in the Parish Church by the Vicar (Rev. P. Kirk). The eldest son, Mr. W. E. Powell, of Loddington, was unable to be present through illness, and the youngest son, Cpl. R. Powell, was away on duty with the R.A.F.
Mourners were: Mr. H. A. Powell, Forncett St. Peter, Mr. W. H. Powell, Sheringham (sons), Misses G., Q. and M. Powell (daughters), Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Hankins, Wellingborough (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs. W. E. Powell, Loddington (daughter-in-law), Miss. Betty Hankins and Mr. Donald Powell (grandchildren), Mr. W. Garner, Earls Barton (brother), Mr. and Mrs. J. Garner, Earls Barton (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. J. Garner and Phil, Earls Barton (nephew and niece), Mr. and Mrs. F. Garner, Raunds (brother and sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. H. Powell, Northampton (brother-in-law and sister-in-law), Mrs. Willmott (friend).
There were many beautiful flowers.
