Fatal Accident to an Old Lady—An inquest was held at the Chequers Inn on Wednesday touching the death of Jane Pettit. Nellie Pettit said deceased, her grandmother, lived with witness and her father and mother. Deceased was 70 years of age, and the widow of James Pettit, butcher. Last Sunday morning she saw her grandmother taking some beef tea to witness’s father, who was ill, but when she reached the top stairs she fell. Witness was in the shop at the time, and hearing the father call out she went to see what was the matter, and found deceased lying on the couch, insensible. Her father heard deceased fall, and getting out of bed he dragged her to the couch as well as he could. Deceased often fell down, from giddiness. Her grandmother never recovered consciousness after the accident, and died on Tuesday morning.—Dr Bennetts, Bozeat, said he saw deceased on Saturday. She was suffering from bruises on the right side of the face and temple. He did not detect any fracture or other external injuries, except the bruises. He had no doubt death was due to cerebral haemorrhage and coma, the result of a fall.—“Accidental death” was the verdict of the jury.
