It is with deep regret that we record the passing of Mr Tom Pearcey, of 58, Lancaster-street, Higham Ferrers, whose death took place at Northampton General Hospital on Sunday morning. Well known and popular with his many friends throughout Higham Ferrers and Rushden, Mr Pearcey was an employee of the late Mr Charles Cross, and of the Northamptonshire Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd., for a period of over thirty-six years, and with his passing his colleagues mourn the loss of a genial fellow worker and a skilled printer, of many years’ experience.
Born at Northampton, 59 years ago, Mr Pearcey came to Higham Ferrers in 1896, to the firm of Messrs Easton and Knight, printers of Wood-street, whose premises are now demolished. In 1897, the “Rushden Echo” was founded, and for the first few weeks was set and printed at Messrs Easton and Knight’s premises, and Mr Pearcey printed the first copy. When the late Mr Charles Cross, the proprietor, removed to Rushden and established his own premises, Mr Pearcey accompanied him, and remained with firm (now the Northamptonshire Printing and Publishing Co. Ltd.), until the time of his death, a period of over 35 years. Mr Pearcey printed the first copy of the “Rushden Echo” and the last, when the “Echo” ceased publication as a separate paper in 1929.

Mr Pearcey was for some years a member of the Territorials and was also one of the first members of the Rushden and District Clubs Fund for the Blind and Crippled Children. He was a member of the West End Club, Rushden, and the Conservative Club, Irthlingborough.
He leaves a widow, four sons and two daughters. One son, Private T J Pearcey, was killed in France in 1916.
The funeral took place at Higham Ferrers yesterday afternoon, when the Vicar, the Rev B E Owen, conducted a service at the Parish Church, and afterwards officiated at the interment at the cemetery. The family mourners were: Mrs Pearcey (widow), Mrs Ablett and Miss I Pearcey (daughters), Messrs C., S., Cyril and Fred Pearcey (sons), Mrs C Pearcey and Mrs S Pearcey (daughters-in-law), Mr and Mrs G Pearcey, Northampton (brother and sister-in-law), Mrs Ablett, Irthlingborough.
Others who were present to pay their last respects included Messrs F G Felce (manager), and T H Martin, representing the printing department, and Mr L J Bartley and Miss M Randall, the editorial department of the “Rushden Echo and Argus”; Mr Stapleton (Rothwell, Mr W S Middleton, Mr H Waring, Mr H E Lack (Northampton), Mrs E Owen, Mrs F G Felce, Mr Arthur Easton and Mr and Mrs H Neal.

Messrs F Parker and Son carried out the funeral arrangements.
