| Memory of Great Fire—In the passing away on Tuesday at his residence, 16 Commercial-street, of Mr Charles Norman, aged 67, the town lost an old native who was one of the many householders whose homes were destroyed by the great fire of over 40 years ago. Mr Norman was at that time a master baker on the west side of High-street, having started there five months before the great fire.
While some of the householders from the row of dwellings on that side went to “Refuge”-terrace after their homes were burnt out, Mr Norman found accommodation on the opposite side in a house now occupied by Mr Stafford. The original bakehouse was restored later on.
In later years Mr Norman was landlord of the Vine Inn, Irthlingborough. He was also a member of the Oddfellows Friendly Society, having passed through the chief Lodge office. The widow is left to mourn her loss. There were no children of the marriage. The funeral took place yesterday, the Rev B E Owen officiating. Mr A Sanders, of Rushden, carried out the funeral arrangements.
