Irchester Victim Private Alan Neale Dies from Exhaustion
Irchester has again suffered loss in the demise of one of its brave defenders, the death being officially notified of Pte. Alan Neale (Irchester), of the 1st Northants regiment. Deceased, who was 30 years of age, was at one time a militia reservist and served in the South African War. Although a time-expired man, he re-enlisted in the Northamptonshire Regiment at the beginning of the present war, and was present and in action at the battles of the Marne, Aisne, La Basse, and Ypres. He was invalided home in December last to a Bristol Hospital, and, after 28 days’ home leave, he returned to the depot at Weymouth, where he died from exhaustion. He was buried there with full military honours. Deceased leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss.
