Rushden Echo & Argus, 21st July 1944, transcribed by Kay Collins

From Officers, Men and Women
A cheque for £81 has been sent to Mrs Mears, of 3 Newman-street, Higham Ferrers, with the sincere wishes of all the airmen and airwomen, N.C.O.s and officers from the camp where her husband—L.A.C. Wilfred Bonham Mears, R.A.F. served before losing his life in an accident on June 13th.

The letter which accompanies the cheque states: “The high esteem in which your husband was held by all here was shown by the ready response of all who contributed. The section in which he worked and to whom his loss means so much have spared no effort to try to help you in some way.

“It is difficult to express how sorry we all are in your sad loss but it will be of some consolation to you to know that he was such a good comrade, always willing to help others, and carried out his duties most efficiently.”
