Gunner's Death - Higham Man's Sacrifice in Burma

Gnr. Raymond Mawson, Royal Artillery, of Higham Ferrers has been reported to have been killed in action in Burma on March 8th.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Mawson, of 15, Windmill Banks, and his wife and 16 months old son whom he has never seen, live at 23, George-street Higham Ferrers.

Gnr. Mawson (24) joined the Territorials at 17 and was called up just before the outbreak of war. He volunteered to go abroad in 1942 and had been in Burma just over two years. His wife, before their marriage four years ago, was Miss Violet Whiting. Before service he had been employed by Keunen Bros., Ltd., and the Mill Chrome Tanning Co.

His younger brother, OS. Wm Mawson, lost his life with the Royal Navy 18 months ago. His elder brother has been with the B.L.A. for eight months.
