Purser Norman Howard Mason
S.S. Yaroslavl

Son of Mr G Mason

Aged 22 years

Born at Wellingborough. Studied at Soham College, Norfolk.

Rushden Echo and Argus, 4th October 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins

DEATH IN SOUTH AFRICA—Purser N. Mason, of the S.S. Yaroslavl, youngest son of Mr. G. Mason, Marshall's-road, Raunds, late of Wellingborough, has died at Cape Town from pneumonia. Purser Mason was 22 years age.

Note: The SS Yaroslavl (newsclip gives the ship's name as Yaraslvi) was built on Clydeside in 1892 for the Russian Volunteer Fleet Association, Odessa. In 1918 it was under the Shipping Controller for the British Government. Perhaps employed in a civilian post, as although Purser Mason is listed on the War Memorial at Raunds, no record is on the CWGC site.
