Raunds Victim of the War — Lance-Corporal A March Killed in Action
Mr and Mrs F W March, of High-street, Raunds, have received a letter informing them of the death of their son, Lance-Corpl. A. March. Capt. Middleton writes that Lance-Corpl. March was killed in action on Nov. 30th. He was standing to in a trench ready to repel an attack, which the enemy were making, when a shell fell just beside him and killed him instantly.
The Captain adds: "He had been in my company for a very long time, so I got to know him very well, and with the men also he was a great favourite. His death was a great blow to us, but we can only realise in a small way what it must mean to you."
Lance-Corpl. March joined the Colours in January 1915, and went out to France in July of the same year. He was home on leave at the end of last October, and returned to France on November 3rd, so that he had only been back a month when he was killed. Previous to joining the Civil Service Rifles he was on the advertising staff of the "Chatham, Rochester and Gillingham Observer." He was 24 years of age.
Mr and Mrs March have one other son, and he is in the Kite Balloon Section of the Royal Flying Corps, at present in France.
