Sports enthusiasts in the district, especially those who are interested in football, much regret the death which took place early on Saturday morning at 37, High Street, Higham Ferrers, of Mr Thomas Linnitt, who had been for two years secretary of the Higham Town Football Club. His illness was of short duration, as he was out as recently as the previous Monday watching a match at Wellingborough. He was attacked with a severe cold and stayed indoors afterwards but did not find it necessary to keep to bed. On Friday night he went to bed worse than usual and Dr. Crew was fetched early on Saturday as Mr Linnitt seemed to have had a sudden and critical relapse. The doctor attended but, unhappily, could do nothing to save the deceased, who passed away at 7.45a.m. He had lived with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs C Linnitt. The deceased had been secretary of the Higham Wesleyan Institute F.C., secretary of the Higham Industrial Sick Benefit Club, one of the prime movers in the formation of the Rushden and District Football League, on the committee of the Higham C.C., and was generally associated with the best sport of the district. He regularly attended the Rushden Men's Adult School, and had lately been a very useful worker in the School. He had worked as a clerk at Messrs. Charles Parker's factory. The assistant secretary of the Higham F.C., Mr W S Middleton, has received letters of sympathy and appreciation from the secretaries of the Northants Football League, the Northants Football Association, the Stamford F.C. And the Kettering Town F.C. The Funeral took place on Tuesday at St. Mary's Church and the Cemetery, the Rev. Geoffrey Frisby (Curate), officiating. The mourners were Mr and Mrs C Linnitt, Mr and Mrs A Linnitt, brothers and sisters-in-law; Mr and Mrs G Burt, brother-in-law and sister; Mr and Mrs F Linnitt, brother and sister-in-law; Mr and Mrs Dartnell, brother-in-law and sister; Mr G Smith, brother-in-law; Miss D Smith, niece; Mrs Rawlings, Mrs Roberts, nieces; Misses Burt, nieces; Mrs Owen of Kettering, Mr Roland Cox, Mr T Alton and Mr Ben Payne, friends. Other representatives present were: Industrial Sick Benefit Club, Mr J Middleton (president) and Mr E Kilsby, sen. (vice president); Northants Football League and Association, Mr A C Church and Mr F Underwood; Rushden and District Football League, Mr F Wilkins (president); Rushden Town F.C., Mr E Wadsworth; Higham Town F.C., Mr W S Middleton (assistant secretary), Mr T Browning (treasurer), of the officials Mr H Small for the committee and Mr H Clarke of the players; Higham Wesleyan Institute F. C., Mr F Pack and Mr T Coles; Rushden Men's Adult School, Messrs. C J Giles, C W Dunkley, H J Tuffrey, B V Page, F Harris and C Lilley. The bearers, old fellow workers, were Messrs. W Bates, J Randall, J Abbott, and H Cox. Mr Fred Parker carried out the funeral arrangements. The coffin bore the inscription "Thomas Linnitt, died December 31st, 1921, aged 39 years". The many handsome floral tributes included the following: "A token of esteem and respect of our secretary from the officials and committee of the Town F.C." "With deepest sympathy from the players of Higham Town F.C.". "With deepest sympathy from the Northants Football Association". "A tribute of esteem and respect from the Rushden and District Football League". "With sincere sympathy and a deep sense of loss of an intimate friend of all his fellows from all engaged on the firm of Charles Parker". "A token of sympathy from the committee and members of the Higham Ferrers Institute". and a permanent artificial wreath from the Northants Football League. The Higham F.C. player's wreath was appropriately adorned with a ribbon of pale green (the colours of the club), and the Kettering F.C. wreath included a number of artificial poppies. "A token of respect from the Rushden Men's Adult School and Choir". "With sincere sympathy from the Kettering Town Football Club".
