Rushden Echo, 22nd February 1901, transcribed by Kay Collins
Charles Linger

A Fatal Fall—A Raunds labourer named Charles Linger was on Friday with another man, taking a cart to the farm where he worked. Linger was riding on the front of the cart, although there were no reins, and he was advised to walk. Suddenly the horse started off, being frightened by a train shunting, and the man fell, striking his head on the ground. He was taken to Northampton Infirmary, where he died on Monday morning from the effects of his injuries; concussion of the brain and a scalp wound.

At the inquest on Wednesday a verdict of “Accidental death was returned.”
