With the passing of Mrs Ruth Knight on Saturday, Chelveston has lost its oldest inhabitant. A native of the village, Mrs Knight had spent the whole of her 93 years there and had lived in St Georges-road since she was nine years of age.
Widow of Mr Isaac Knight, she had been in failing health for two years, but up to the age of 90 had carried on the art of pillow lace making.
Mr Knight died 14 years ago and three daughters are left—Mrs T Newell of Higham Ferrers and Mrs E Newell and Mrs G Brittin, of Chelveston.
The funeral took place in the village on Wednesday.
The service was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev C Ayton Williams) and two hymns were sung, with Mrs Williams at the organ.
Mourners were: Mr and Mrs T Newell (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs E Newell (daughter), Mr Don Newell (grandson), Mr and Mrs G Brittin (son-in-law and daughter), Mrs C Knight (cousin), Miss Edna Newell (granddaughter), Mrs A Waite (friend), Mr and Mrs Dunkley (nephew and niece).
Wreaths included one from the neighbours of St George’s Row and St John’s Cottages.
