Rushden Echo, 22nd November 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Soldier KilledMr and Mrs S Horne, of 20, Commercial-street, Higham Ferrers, have been officially notified of the death in action on September 24th of their second son, Pte Thomas Horne, 1st Northamptons. Pte Horne had served just four years, more than half of which time was spent in France. He had once been wounded, and later on he was accidentally injured. Before he joined up he worked at Messrs Sanders and Sanders, Rushden. Since Mrs Horne received the official notification of the death of her son, the captain of his company sent the following sympathetic letter: “Dear Mrs Horne, I regret to inform you that your son, Pte T Horne, was killed in action on September 24th. I was away from the battalion at the time, otherwise I would have written before. Please accept my deepest sympathy in your great loss. If I can give you any further information I shall be very pleased to do so.Yours very sincerely, Geo C Totton, Capt.”
