This was part of the tribute paid to the late Mr. William Josiah Hayes, Bozeat’s postmaster, Parish Council chairman, and representative of the village on several bodies, at the funeral service in Bozeat Methodist Church on Monday. Mr. Hayes died in Northampton General Hospital on the previous Thursday, aged 70.

The church, which he had faithfully served in a number of ways throughout his life, was filled with a representative congregation for the service, which was conducted by the Rev. John Daggett, superintendent minister of the Wellingborough Methodist Circuit. Part of the service was read by the Rev. Frank B. Roberts (second minister), and the eulogy was delivered b the Rev. C. Sidney Day (third minister).

Mr. H. Roberts, a London friend of Mr. Hayes, was at the organ and accompanied the singing of the Hymns, "We love the Place, O God," and "Give me the wings of Faith to rise."

After the service, the cortege wound its way through the village to the cemetery where Mr. Daggett officiated at the committal.

The Mourners
Among the relatives at the funeral was a daughter from Zurich, Switzerland, Mrs. W. Bickel, who arrived in Bozeat on Saturday. The chief mourners were Mrs. Hayes (widow), Miss D. Hayes and Miss N Hayes, Bozeat, Mrs. Bickel, Switzerland, and Mrs. H. Gambrell, Purley (daughters), Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hayes, Stoke-on-Trent (brother and sister-in-law), Mr P. Mould, Wansford and Mr. W. Landin, Kimbolton (brothers-in-law), Mr. Wilfred Landin and Miss E. Landin, Kimbolton (nephew and niece), Mr. Archibald Hayes, Wolverhampton, Mr. Matthew Hayes Warmington, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Allman. Norwich and Mr. John Platt, Norwich (cousins).

The bearers were Mr. T. P. Roberts. Mr. J. Cave, Mr John Drage, and Mr. F. Wyman.
