Mine Victim Podington Officer Killed in Italy
Sad news was received last week by Mr. W. Goosey and his wife, Nurse Goosey, of “Pixie Cottage,” Podington, when they learned that their elder son, Lieutenant Beranrd Goosey, aged 22, of the Beds. and Herts. Regiment, has been killed in Italy.
Educated at the Duke of York Royal Miltary School. Lt. Goosey enlisted as a private in the Northamptonshire Regiment at 19 years. Because of his knowledge he was transferred to the Artillery. Volunteering to go abroad, he was sent to Egypt, where he fought at El Alamein. He returned to headquarters and was a staff officer. Afterwards he received a regular commission in the Beds. and Herts. Regiment.
Details of his death have been received by his parents. It appears that several of his Company were in the act of taking a hill-side when one of them caught his foot in a trip wire and exploded a mine. Lieut. Goosey received chest wounds and died instantaneously. He was buried with full military honours on Mount Maggis.
