Irchester Rifleman Dies of Wounds
Rifleman Jesse George, of the London Regiment, died of wounds on April 9th. He enlisted in February 1916, in the 4th Northants, was transferred to the R.I.R., and later to the London Regiment. He was 21 in July last, and was well known in the football field as “Brownie.” The chaplain, writing to the parents, says: “I buried your son, Pte. J. George, in the Military Hospital, Gouy, at 3p.m. on April 12th. He died in hospital of gunshot wounds in the arm and right breast. A cross marks the sacred spot. God help you and all who loved him to bear your heavy loss. I have given my boy, so I felt for you all. God bless and help you to be brave.”
