Deceased had been the Irthlingborough stationmaster for 16 years and was highly respected in the district. He was a native of Tempsford, Beds, and started work as a porter with the L.N.W. Railway Company at the age of 17. He was transferred later to Willedsen, and in 1892 was appointed stationmaster at Ringstead. Subsequently he held the same position at Barnwell, Thorpe, and Castle Ashby, before being appointed to Irthlingborough. He made many friends over a wide district.

Deceased was at work on the day before his death, though for some time he had been under a doctor’s care for heart trouble, and was preparing to retire after 43 years’ railway service. He did not go to bed on Christmas Eve, but passed away early on Christmas morning in his chair in the bedroom.

Mr George left a widow, two sons, and two daughters. One of the sons is working on the railway at Wellingborough, and a daughter is married to Mr Cross, farmer, of Farndish.

The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, and the large attendance of friends included many railway colleagues of the deceased. The service in the cemetery chapel and the ceremony at the graveside were conducted by the Rev H Graham Payn, of Higham Ferrers, and the chief mourners were Mrs George (widow), Mr F T George, of Wellingborough, Mr A J George (sons), Mrs A E Cross, of Farndish, Miss M E George (daughters), Miss E George, of Sandy, Mrs Cleaver, of London (sisters), Mrs F T George (daughter-in-law), Mr A E Cross, of Farndish (son-in-law), Mr Cleaver, of London, Mr J Crabb, of Rugby, Mr W H Crabb, of Wallsall (brothers-in-law), Mr J Crabb, jun., of Rugby (nephew), and Mr J Sharpe, of Thorpe (friend).

Six railwaymen, Messrs A Twelftree (Stanwick), F Braybrook, G Hickman, W Austin, Tyrrell, and T Pridmore (Irthlingborough), bore the coffin, and those who followed included Mr C S Gill, Thrapston stationmaster (representing the railway staff of the Northampton district); Mr D Horn, late stationmaster at Wellingborough London-road; Mr J C Gregory, Rushden stationmaster; Mr Lymage, late stationmaster at Ditchford crossing; Mr E Dewberry, a former goods clerk, now at Oundle; Mr J B Kirk, Mr H J Sanders, Mr A Edmunds, and Mr A Dickens, goods clerks at Irthlingborough.

Among the many wreaths were beautiful tributes from the railway staffs at Irthlingborough and Northampton.
