The Late Mr Spencer George
Funeral at Irchester – A Former Parish Councillor
The funeral took place at Irchester on Saturday of the late Mr Spencer George, a former member of the Parish Council and an ardent Liberal and Wesleyan. A service was held at the Wesleyan Chapel, the Rev J Westcombe, of Wellingborough, conducting. Brief tributes to the character of the deceased were given by Mr C Cross, of Rushden and Mr Westcombe.

The mourners were: Mr and Mrs J E George, son and daughter-in-law; Mr Stephen George and Mrs Neal, son and sister; Mr and Mrs Josiah George, son and daughter-in-law; Mr and Mrs Ernest George and Elsie, son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter; Mr G George and Mrs Desborough, brother and sister; Mr and Mrs E Joyce, brother and sister-in-law; Mr and Mrs Arthur E George, grandson and granddaughter-in-law; Mr C M George and Miss Ivy George, grandson and granddaughter; Mr A C Wade, Wellingboro’; Mr T Catlin, Wollaston; Mr William Moulton, Irchester, representing the Foresters.

The coffin bore the inscription:

Spencer George
Died Feb 15th, 1916
Aged 73 years and 10 months,
“There is sweet rest in Heaven.”

The interment took place in the Parish Churchyard, the Rev J Westcombe officiating. The bearers were Messrs C Riddle, J A Kemshead, C Spencer, W George, S Laughton, W Lovell, M Smith and C Wilkins.
