Phyllis White (nee Furness), daughter of Robert shared the same 8th July birth date as her father - he was killed by the Germans in May of World War One and Phyllis was killed by them in May of World War Two.
Robert's half-brother, William Furness, married Emma (nee Green) who was killed 6 months earlier when a bomb fell in Roberts Street, Rushden. Emma is commemorated on a Blue Plaque.

Irchester Soldier Missing - Private Robert Furness - News Wanted

Mr George Furness, of New Wymington, Rushden, is anxious to receive some definite news concerning the whereabouts of his brother, 22554, Pte Robert Furness, of the Trench Mortar Battery, Northants Regt, who has been missing from his unit since May 3rd as reported in the “Rushden Echo” at the time.

Pte Furness, who was one of Captain Stocken’s recruits, had been in France over twelve months prior to the date on which he was reported missing. Before enlisting, he was employed by Messrs Green and Coe, boot manufacturers, Rushden. His wife and family reside at Irchester.

Mr George Furness will be grateful to any of his brother’s comrades who can send him any further information.
