Stanwick - The Funeral of the late Drummer W. Elliott, of the Salvation Army, whose death we reported in our last issue, took place on Saturday. A short service was conducted at the house by Captain Baker, of the Raunds Corps. Ensign and Mrs. Michie, and the Band and Songsters, under Bandsman Giles, of Rushden, also attended. The Songsters gave a rendering of the hymn “My Jesus, I love Thee.” Prayer was led by Songster J. Dix, after which the hymn “He shall sustain thee” was sung. Ensign Mrs. Michie closed that part of the obsequies with prayer. The cortege then proceeded to the Churchyard, where the interment took place. The officers led the procession, followed by the Band, the hearse, the family mourners and Salvation soldiers, the Band playing the “Dead March” in “Saul.” At the graveside the Songsters sand “Servant of God, well done.” Prayer was offered by Deputy-Bandsman Seamarks (Rushden), which was followed by the singing of “We shall walk through the valley.” Capt. Baker and Bandmaster Giles paid a tribute to the sincerity of the deceased’s life from the time he joined the Salvation Army up to his death. Ensign Michie delivered an exhortation to all who were present.
