Wellingborough News, 18th March 1887, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr William Darnell

IRCHESTER - SUDDEN DEATH—A great shock was caused this village on Thursday morning, by the sudden death of Mr Wm. Darnell, manager of the Co-operative Stores. Deceased was at market on Wednesday, and attended the service held the same evening in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, conducted Miss Brewster, the Gospel Temperance missionary. He felt poorly while he was there, and after the service he went home and went to bed, but neither he nor his wife was apprehensive of anything unusual. In the morning his wife thought he was in a comfortable sleep, but instead of sleep it was found to be death. Deceased was a native of this village and was highly respected. He had been a member of the Wesleyan Society of late years, and for many years previous was a member of the Baptist Church at Rushden.
