Mr. Frederick Cowle

The Funeral took place in the Churchyard at Yelden on Monday last of the late Mr. Frederick Cowley, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Cowley. The Rev. C. Howes Smith (Rector) conducted the service both in the church and at the graveside, and Mrs. Howes Smith presided at the organ for the hymn “Jesu, Lover of my soul.” The deceased was a native of Yelden and had been one of the bellringers of Yelden Church for many years.

The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Cowley (father and mother), Horace and Nellie (brother and sister), Mrs. J. Holyoak and Miss Brooks (his financée), Mr. G. Cooper and Mrs. J. Church (uncle and aunt), Mr. and Mrs. H. Groome (uncle and aunt), Mr. R. Hackney and Mrs. A. Lovell (uncle and aunt), Mrs. A. Coles and Miss A. Holyoak (cousins), Mrs. A. Knight and Miss L. Church (cousins), and Mrs. J. Shortland (great-aunt). The coffin was of polished elm with brass fittings, and bore the inscription:

Frederick Cowley
Died March 21st 1917.
Age 23 years.
