Raunds Victim of The War - Private Luther Coles Killed In Action

Mrs J Parker, Marshall’s Road, Raunds, has received news from a chaplain in France informing her of the death of her son, Pte Luther Coles, RGA, who was killed on July 26th and was buried in a little cemetery in Belgium.

The chaplain writes that “he was loved by both officers and men, and was always cheerful and jolly, and that they tell him (the chaplain) that they will miss him very much.”

Pte Coles was 27 years of age, and worked for Messrs Adams Bros, boot manufacturers, previous to enlistment. He had only been back in France a fortnight when he was killed.

All the eight sons of Mr and Mrs Parker have joined the army; two have given their lives for their country, and the other six are still serving. One son, Pte E Parker was killed during the first year of the war.
