A Raunds Soldier’s Death - Private Cyril Clark Fatally Injured
Mr and Mrs Thomas Clark, of Raunds, have received news that their son Pte Cyril Clark, Northants Regiment, has been killed in France. The sister at the 32nd Casualty Clearing Station writes:-
Dear Mrs Clark, - I am very sorry to have to tell you that your son was dangerously wounded in the body last week. We did everything possible for him, but the injuries were too severe, and his strength failed rapidly, till at 11pm on August 3rd he passed peacefully away. I do not think he knew how ill he was.
Before his death Pte Clark wrote that he got hit in the stomach by a sniper’s bullet and crept to a shell hole and bound himself up. He lay there for an hour, and was then taken to the hospital, where he was well looked after by a sister.
Mr and Mrs Clark have two other sons serving and a son-in-law, Pte J Spriggs, Northants Regiment, seriously wounded, is in Netley Hospital.
