Obituary—A respected inhabitant of Podington, Mr. Thomas Arnold Brown, died on Monday at the age of 76 after a long illness. Mr. Brown had been employed as an engineer for 35 years by Messrs Knowlton and Sons, timber merchants, and was for many years a well-known member of the Podington Cricket Club. For 50 years he and his wife had lived at 33, High-street, and they celebrated their golden wedding two years ago. Mrs. Brown survives her husband, and there is one daughter, Mrs Pat Bryan, and two sons, Mr Ross Brown and Mr Frank Brown. The funeral took place at Podington on Thursday afternoon, and the service, which was held at the Parish Church, was conducted by the Vicar, the Rev Evan Thomas. The lesson was read by Col. R R B Orlebar, and the mourners were:- Mrs T A Brown (widow), Mrs P Bryan (daughter), Mrs Ross Arnold Brown, Mr Frank Arnold Brown (sons), Mr Dick Arnold Brown (brother), Mr John Bryan Mr R Bryan and Master Tommy Bryan (grandsons), Miss Betty Bryan (granddaughter), Mrs Alfred Wildman (niece), Mr and Mrs Reg Pettit (nephew and niece) Mr and Mrs Bert Wright (friends), Nurse Norman and Mrs W Gilbert.
Among the numerous friends who attended the church service were Col R R B Orlebar, Dr D G Greenfield, Mr Elgy (representing the Bromburgh Estate), Mrs W Rogers, Mrs John Brown, Mrs Don Claridge, Mrs P Wykes, Mr Dodd, Mr John Watts and Mr C H Brown.
