William Boddington, aged 65, of 1 Wood-street, Higham Ferrers, and a native of Newton Bromswold, passed away on Saturday at mid-night, following an illness of several months. Nearly three years ago, our readers may remember, we reported an unusual accident of which Mr Boddington was the victim. He was up a tree helping to lop the big branches, when one of the branches fell, dragging with it a rope which was twisted round one of Mr Boddington’s thumbs. So badly was the thumb torn that it had to be amputated. Since that time Mr Boddington had not been in good health for long together, due, it is believed, to the shock caused by the accident. He was a journeyman in his trade. Mr Boddington was held in high respect by all who knew him.
The funeral took place on Wednesday, amidst many signs of the deep respect in which the deceased was held. The first part of the service was conducted at the Parish Church by the Vicar, the Rev B E Owen. The coffin, of polished elm, with brass fitting, bore the inscription: “William Boddington, Died Feb 26th 1927. Aged 65 years.”
The mourners were Mrs Boddington (widow), and Mr Len Boddington (son), Mr George Boddington, Miss L Wildman, Miss Boddington, Mr T Wildman, Mrs Bird, Mr B Boddington (nephews and nieces), Mrs Boddington, Newton (sister), Mrs Nicholson (sister-in-law), Mr and Mrs W Lines, Irthlingborough (nephew and niece), Mr and Mrs G Watford, Stanwick (brother-in-law and sister), Mrs Ekins and Mrs Waite (sisters-in-law), Mrs A Knight and Mr Gore (niece and nephew), Miss P Ekins and Miss Twelvetree (friends), Mrs W Mortimer and Mrs E G Felce (friends).
The interment took place at the Cemetery, the committal sentences being said by the Vicar in the presence of numerous friends. [a list of wreaths follows]
Mr Fred Parker carried out the funeral arrangements.
