Rushden Echo, 12th November 1915, transcribed by Kay Collins
Stanwick - A Memorial Service was held in the Parish Church on Sunday for Private Sidney Bird, who died in hospital in France from wounds. There was a large congregation, amongst whom were noticed Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Gates (his late employers), also Mr. Ayres, of Rushden, and several of the employees from the L. and N.W.R. Co., where Pte. Bird previously worked. A very feeling address was given by the Rector and suitable hymns were sung. At the close of the service the “Dead March” in “Saul” was played and the National Anthem sung.
