Chum’s Death – Wollaston Man Killed in the Trenches

The Late Pte Thomas BarnesOn Monday Mr Wm Barnes, Hinwick-road, Wollaston, received a letter from private Clarke, informing him that his son, Private Thomas Barnes, was killed in action on November 1st. Private Clarke, who was his chum, states that he was near him when he fell, deceased being one of his best friends. Mr Barnes has not as yet received any notification from the War office and has sent for information. Private Barnes, who was 28 years of age, was a reservist. In the 48th (Northants), and previous to being called up worked at Rushden, where his wife resides. The relatives are anxiously awaiting further information.
