Irchester Man Missing - Rushden M. R. Drayman - No News Since May 9th.
Mr. J. C. Turner, of Irchester, received an intimation from the War Office that Pte. J. J. Athews of Irchester, formerly a Midland Railway drayman at Rushden, has been missing since May 9th. Pte Athews, who is about 25 years of age, a single man, is the son of Mr. J. J. Athews of Millbunch-terrace, Irchester and had been a drayman at Rushden for the last four or five years. Pte. Fred Athews, brother of Pte. J. J. Athews, is in the fighting line.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Atthews of 1 Station Road Irchester, received official news on Tuesday that their second son, Pte. Frederick J. Atthews, Northamptonshire Regiment, was killed in action on July 7th. Pte. Atthews was 25 years of age last November. He enlisted on August 27th 1914, had been out in France over 18 months and been in many engagements. Up to the time joining the Colours he was a platelayer on the Midland Railway, where he had been employed for four years.

Much sympathy is extended to Mr. and Mrs. Atthews in their bereavement as their eldest son, Pte. J. J. Atthews was killed in action on May 9th 1915. They have another son, Pte. Bert Atthews with the Colours in Scotland.
